This is a simple story of the gift of a pillow. Through changing seasons a young child struggles with her concern and love for her mother. She remembers the stories and games they shared before her mother became ill and went into the hospital. To help her mother feel more comfortable, the child makes her a special pillow. Unique in its simplicity but profound in its implications, this story will encourage every reader to find his or her own level of meaning and provide reassurance to face what is beyond our control.
This book told the story of a little girl going through early stages of grief for her sick mother that is in the hospital. The illustrations showed her mother’s items left behind while she is in the hospital - such as incomplete sewing items. The daughter feels attached to her mothers pillow and finds comfort in hugging it, as it reminds her of her mother. There was a lot of weight in the illustrations. It was a very powerful, sad story.
I loved the message of this book. It is a story about a girl missing her mother who is in the hospital. At some point in life, all children go threw the stage of missing their parents when they are gone. This would be a good story to read to new students in a class.
The book talks about a little girl who misses her ill mother and decides to make her a pillow, so she could be more comfortable. However, when she gets back with the pillow the mother is gone, suggested died. This is a nice book to help children understand loss. Suitable for ages 3-5, found at the pierce college library
"A Pillow for My Mom" tells the heartbreaking story of a young girl who has recently lost her mother. It follows the young girl through the seasons, as she tells the story of when her mom was in good health, as well as when her mom fell ill, and had to be taken to the hospital. In an attempt to make her mom more comfortable at the hospital, the young girl makes a pillow for her mom. After her mother's passing, the young girl holds the pillow close to herself to feel her mother's presence once more.

A little girl is missing her very sick mother who is in the hospital. She misses all the things they use to do but instead of being sad she decides to make a pillow for her mother to cheer her up. The book doesn't say the mother dies but implies it when the little girl uses the pillow to treasure it as a loving memory.
Age 3-5

In A Pillow for My Mom the lone character reminisces about her mother. Her mother gets sick and has to go away, this saddens the girl. To make her mother feel better about being sick, the little girl makes her a pillow. The pillow reminds the mother of her child and she smiles. In the end, the girl has the pillow again and the reader has to presume that the mother died. Although the story was touching, I would not share it with my students. The book doesn't show the mother and in the end we do not clearly know her faith. The book was lacking in my opinion.
