This is a story about a little girl who loves spending time with her grandma, because they do so many fun things together. But one day, her grandma seems different, and she doesn't remember their traditions. The little girl and her parents find out grandma has Alzheimer's, and she has to go to a nursing facility. The little girl is sad that her grandma isn't the same person she used to be, but she still loves her grandma. This is a good example of realistic fiction, because everything that happens in this story is possible in really life, it just isn't a biography of a real person. I would use this book in my classroom if some of my students were struggling with ill family members. show more These types of things happen all the time, and they aren't easy to deal with, especially for kids. But it's good to tell kids that they can miss their old grandma or grandpa, but they can still love the way there are now just the same. show less

A book about Alzheimer disease. About a girl who has a special bond with her grandmother and over time her grandmother starts forgetting things. Very insightful on how this illness affects children's ability to comprehend something this intense.
What a remarkable book. I cannot think of a better way to help children understand how sometimes when you get older, your body changes and you cannot do things you usually would with others. The illustrations were simple, and the story line was simply great.
This is a good example of realistic fiction because it is about a girl describing her relationship with her grandma before and after her grandma gets Alzheimer's disease. The audience will really be able to empathize with the little girl as she tells about all the changes that happen because it is so realistic that the audience believes it and it could happen like that in real life. Also, it helps to show human interactions and relationships, including interactions with people once they are different from this disease. Camille is the little girl in the story and she is a round character in this story as we learn a lot about her through her retelling of her experiences and relationship with her grandma. Because it is written as a show more first-person narrative, we not only learn about her through her actions and dialogue but we can hear her thoughts. She grows a lot through the book as she learns to truly appreciate the memories she had with her grandma and also learns how to make new ones even though her grandma is different than she used to be. The illustrations were created through paint. show less

I think this is a great book. It has a great theme and deals with an important message. I think it is a great example of realistic fiction because it is not retelling a story that actually happened but it is a story that could in fact occur. It tells of a girl dealing with her Grandmother developing Alzheimer’s. The plot is set up well in that we see the beginning of the story telling us how close she was to her grandmother. We also followed them in their usual traditions. After the intro we start seeing signs of the grandma’s memory loss before finding out that she has Alzheimer’s. The main character, Camille, is a round character. We learn about how she show more feels towards her grandma and how the disease has affected her. She works through problems and grows in the process. show less
NCLA Review -This is a story of a little girl and her grandma. They do lots of fun things together when the little girl goes to visit. But soon the grandma begins doing things that she didn't used to do and it is discovered that she has Alzheimer's disease. The little girl's compassion and love show those of us who have either been touched by this disease or those who know others who have been, that even though the person is not the same as they were before, they are still worthy of love. And after all, she is still her grandma. I believe this would be a good book to share with children who may be experiencing this life changing stage with their grandparents. It is comforting and the illustrations are done in warm neutral shades, making show more it feel a little more loving. I would rate this book as a 4 being very helpful. Ages 4-8.
