It is such a treat to encounter Bron and Lena again from Risky Business as we meet Lena's younger sister, Tris. Tris' heart for research and genealogy proves useful as she discovers a medieval book during her time with her grandmother. Interspersed with several facts from the era before King Henry VIII came into power, this is a fascinating story about the relationship between land, the church, and those who served in previous church buildings. Add Harry, or Lord Tisdale, to the mix and he positively steals the show through his desire to progress in academia.

Without giving away too much, I appreciate that the characters are humble and contrite after making decisions that hurt others. There is an honour associated with the characters show more where they can recognize their selfish motivations and at the same time, halt their actions before things get worse. It's a heartwarming story of how we can be selfless in our relationships. Readers who are fans of the Gilded Age will adore this Trans-Atlantic pairing as Tris navigates a new world and Harry helps translate it for her, bringing their hearts and minds together under the same shared faith. show less

Schooled in Love: A Sweet Gilded Age Romance (Hearts on Display Book 4) by Kimberly Keagan is a breath of fresh air. Beatrice (Tris) Dennison is an American department store heiress but her mother was from a noble English family. She has a number of sisters and the Hearts on Display series follows the various sisters. Tris is visiting her grandmother, the Dowager Countess of Akethorpe in England as her sister Lena is preparing to marry an English professor, Bron. Bron’s best friend is Lord Henry (Harry) Tisdale, a younger son and also a professor.

Tris is interested in family history and looks through all the books in the family libraries. She finds a book written in Old English and needs Harry’s expertise to translate it. There are show more endless obstacles to their work on the book but Tris and Harry find their feelings for each other deepening. Tris is an independent American woman and needs to be taken seriously. Harry is more used to English women and doesn’t recognize what she needs. There are hurt feelings and misunderstandings but works out happily by the end of the book.

Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone book because Kimberly Keagan is careful to include enough background to make it work.

I enjoyed reading this book! Set in London, England during the Gilded Age, lords and earls ruled the day.

The characters are wonderful and easy to like (most of them anyway 😀)! I adore Harry! He's so down to earth. When he makes a mistake he owns up to it. He's brilliant, kind and thoughtful. Tris is someone that I'd be friends with! She's brave, curious and loyal to her family. Her preferable mode of transportation is a bicycle and of course those scandalous bloomers! Grandmama (Augusta) is my favorite! At first glance she's aloof and stern but she has a heart of gold!

There's a bit of a mystery in the book. Tris finds an ancient book written in Old English. Soon Harry and Tris discover a coded love letter. As they work together to show more translate it, their own love story starts to be written.

This is the first book that I've read by this author, but it won't be the last! I won a complimentary copy of the book from LibraryThing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Part of a series but good as a stand-alone. Two intelligent, independent people come together in England over a love of history. A professor who is a family friend and an American who had recently been united with her Grandmother. Intrigue of family and society, with backstabbing people on both sides. In a search around the grounds, she finds a rare book that may uncover an ancient mystery. He needs it to advance his career. They have to work through a lot of issues, and it's interesting to be a bystander and watch, rooting for them both. Good read!

I received this book free from the author, publisher and CelebrateLit book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my show more own.

Book 4 of the "Hearts on Display" series. Picks up shortly after "Risky Business." Tells the story of Tris (daughter of a wealthy American businessman & granddaughter of an English countess) and Harry (second son of an earl) as they investigate an Old English manuscript and deny their feelings for one another in the late 1800s. Clean Christian romance, historical fiction.

I received an advance copy of this work by the author. I was not required to give a positive review.
