Steven doesn't rememember any time before he was 5 years old and came to live in the town where he lives now with his mother and baby brother. His half-brother's father has stolen their car and "done a runner", so it is very difficult for his family to go into town from their remote bush house. In school, his new pen friend's name Elise triggers a memory of being left on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Steven gently puts together the lost pieces of his past to work out who he is and where he is going. Nice easy read.
