Even Clifford the Small Red Puppy in his adorable ghost costume cannot offset the sight of Emily Elizabeth in her cat Halloween costume triggering a traumatic flashback to Rebel Wilson and the rest of the CGI-ed cast from the Cats musical movie adaptation. Brrrr. The mischief and pratfalls just ring hollow when your brain is providing "Memories" as a soundtrack.
In my opinion, this is an adventurous book. Then again, most of the Clifford books are adventurous of Clifford. Clifford’s First Halloween is a great book to read aloud to students and a lower grade level like kindergarten through third maybe because it is a fun book to read especially close to the holiday. Many children love Halloween because of the free candy and mainly the dressing up as a favorite character or super hero. Even though this is a fictional book, it is very fun and the illustrations are very colorful and descriptive. It is a very fun and adventurous story that many readers may feel when they read the story. Mainly because it is about a big red dog named Clifford whom we all wish we had. Also, many children love show more dog’s and can imagine what things they can do if they had a big red dog. I love how the story begins with Clifford being big, but then it goes to Emily Elizabeth who is the owner, telling the story of how Clifford’s first Halloween was when he was a puppy. It gives the readers an idea of how it’s like when you have a dog as a pet because maybe they do the same thing or would like to do the same thing Emily does with Clifford, as a puppy of course. Overall, I would recommend teacher’s having this book as part of a collection in their classroom because Clifford books are always fun and their reader friendly stories. show less
This book is a great quick read on Halloween for Kindergarten. The pictures are adorable and the big red dog is very cute and interesting. I think that this book would be a great read in small group reading.
Very simple lift-the-flap book. My two-year-old enjoyed reading this one before Easter, but it was by no means a great story nor did it have great art work. The big appeal was the flaps.
The Clifford show is also something I remember from my childhood, so I also loved the books of them, it's super nostalgic.
Clifford the small red puppy valiantly tries to celebrate Halloween with Emily Elizabeth, but he is too small to wear a mask or dress up as a scary ghost, and decides to climb into a pumpkin and turn it into a barking jack-o'-lantern. Paperback copy.
emily elizabeth takes clifford trick-or-treating for his first time. they carve a pumpkin, they eat candy apples, the go to a haunted house. they do the same thing every halloween even now that he is big.
