Un libro complejo y hermoso. Me estaba debiendo adentrarme en la obra de Ursula K. Le Guin.
La verdad es que esperaba encontrarme simplemente con "literatura para adolescentes" y me ha parecido más cercana a "El Señor de los Anillos" que a Harry Potter, aunque con ambas sagas se han relacionado tanto estas dos novelas como sus continuaciones. Ambas, creo yo, son novelas de iniciación y se conectan hacia el final de la segunda, cuando el mago que hemos visto crecer y madurar en "Un mago de Terramar" entra en contacto en circunstancias dramáticas con la joven sacerdotisa atrapada en su propia religión y sus oscuros secretos. Le Guin se saca de la manga un mundo propio, un archipiélago, por donde pululan sus personajes, especialmente en "Un mago", donde los viajes y cambios de escenario son frecuentes, a diferencia de "Las show more tumbas", que transcurre casi toda en el mismo lugar. Otros elementos que destacan son el poder de los nombres o la dicotomía oscuridad-luz. Es verdad que al principio, los capítulos dedicados a contarnos los orígenes e infancia de los respectivos protagonistas a veces se hacen algo pesadotes, pero lo cierto es que pronto se encuentra uno no solo interesado sino también disfrutando de buena literatura. Ursula K. Le Guin was born Ursula Kroeber in Berkeley, California on October 21, 1929. She received a bachelor's degree from Radcliffe College in 1951 and a master's degree in romance literature of the Middle Ages and Renaissance from Columbia University in 1952. She won a Fulbright fellowship in 1953 to study in Paris, where she met and married show more Charles Le Guin. Her first science-fiction novel, Rocannon's World, was published in 1966. Her other books included the Earthsea series, The Left Hand of Darkness, The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia, The Lathe of Heaven, Four Ways to Forgiveness, and The Telling. A Wizard of Earthsea received an American Library Association Notable Book citation, a Horn Book Honor List citation, and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1979. She received the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in 2014. She also received the Nebula Award and the Hugo Award. She also wrote books of poetry, short stories collections, collections of essays, children's books, a guide for writers, and volumes of translation including the Tao Te Ching of Lao Tzu and selected poems by Gabriela Mistral.
