Description

"Following his acclaimed novels Eyes of the Hammer and Dragon SIM-13, Bob Mayer takes us again into the world of Special Forces, and this time Chief Warrant Officer Dave Riley and his team of Green Berets must defeat a threat shockingly inhuman. Set in the shadowy world of genetic research, SYNBAT is imaginative and nerve-racking - a thrilling read you will never forget." "Riley and his A-team are called up for "damage control" at a laboratory in the remote hills of western Tennessee. The show more research done there, funded by the Pentagon's "Black Budget," is top-secret - until the subjects of the experiment escape the lab. The "SYNBATs" (synthetic battle forms) are now stalking the countryside, acting out their bioengineered genetic urges with ruthless efficiency." "The Green Berets follow the SYNBATs' bloody trail from rural Tennessee to the urban sprawl of Chicago. In a climax guaranteed to set the heart pounding, Riley and a gutsy woman cop attempt to stop the Pentagon's unholy creations once and for all." ""Black projects" are exempt from normal controls and hidden from public scrutiny. SYNBAT presents a disturbing scenario, but one based on fact. It may be happening today."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved show less

This was a pretty good book. The action flowed well, the characters were developed adequately and the logic was right. It was worth an afternoon's reading and if you enjoy military fiction I think you might like this book.

That was the good stuff. I read the kindle version and none of this might apply to the printed version but caveat emptor. There were misspellings in places such that meaning had to be taken from context. A word or two was left out completely. The word if was used in place of it in a number of places. Not terrible errors but enough to be annoying.

What really annoyed me though was that late in the book a small section was repeated word for word. The section was simply repeated immediately. It bespeaks a certain show more carelessness on the part of the author or (I think non-existent) editor. And one name switched between two spellings.

It seemed to me that the author had good writing, spelling and grammar skills and casually read over what he had written perhaps once and let it go at that. The book would have been better for good editing. I might have been upset if the book had not been free.
