This book is perfect for grades K-2 and maybe even 3rd grade. Students will love to see how Stanley's character develops from being a one-time-two-rule breaker to full on party animal. The author uses complex sentence structure and some repetition, which helps to keep the attention of readers. The story moves along at a nice pace and quickly builds up with anticipation at the end. Although this book is about a talking dog, students can still relate to Stanley's qualities in the story as he acts like he's a person, in fixing the cushions, putting the plate in the sink, dancing, and talking to his friends at the park.

Jake's Review: I really like the Stanley books as they always make me laugh. Stanley is always getting into trouble but he is not a bad dog. This one is very easy to read and even though they are written for the midget, I still like looking at them. The pictures are really funny to look at too. Mom scored me a signed copy of it too which is kinda sic.
Jake's Rating: 9/10
Mom's Review: The story is delightfully charming and the illustrations are classic Slavin. So much expression and attention to detail in the illustrations that even those who have not yet learned to read, can understand the story. I love Stanley he is so wonderfully charming and naughty -- sort of reminds me of Jesse. The storyline is imaginative and unique and really show more makes you wonder what your pets do when you are not home. It is a fast paced story with plenty of fun moments and nice morals cleverly hidden within. This is another one that we used to read to Jake over and over. It is the perfect book for the young and young at heart. I also highly recommend this one for story-time and a must have for all libraries. The kids will laugh at Stanley's wild antics - also check out Stanley's Wild Ride for further Stanley adventures.

I really enjoyed this story for a number of reasons. I thought the overall plot was really fun and children of all ages would enjoy it. The overall message of the story is the value of doing the right thing because Stanley gets in trouble after he is caught by his owners. I like the language of this story too, because it added some humor to the plot. The illustrations were really well done, bright, and colorful, and added more depth to the story. Overall this story is a good one to teach kids how to make predictions in class, considering there are a few ways the story could have gone. This story would be a really good one to read in class and I really enjoyed it.
This has become one of my favorite books. It is a book about a dog who wonders what would happen if he got on the couch when his owners are out. He continues to do this while they are out and then decides one night to throw a party. His family comes home early and catches him. This could teach many lessons. I used this for expression and the kids really got a kick out of it. This is always a good book to show detail in a book for writing. They also have great vocabulary words in it to teach fun new vocab. This also could be taught on a character lesson of right and wrong and following directions.
This book is a good example of fantasy because a dog could not actually throw a party and dance like in this book yet he does and it is still believable.
This book is highly entertaining and offers a variety of teaching points! The vocabulary used in the book is accessible to students on varying reading levels and it uses familiar language. For students who have pets, this story is relatable and it is easy for readers to dive into the imaginative world of pets. It allows readers to relax and crack up laughing while teaching a valuable life lesson.
