My family loves this board book. It has a simple story and simple pictures, but the book is endearing. The pictures show an adorable boy and his favorite teddy, and they are cute and comfortable - they make me think of my own children. The text is simple, told in rhyme that works and is not forced, and is about how a parent loves their child, all their features, through all their moods and temperaments, all their ups and downs. There's not many words to a page, and the focus is on the body parts and emotional moods, which make it easy to capture the attention of young listeners; point out each body part, act out the emotions. This is a sweet love song from a parent to a child, and my girls like listening to it. A great book to add to show more the early library. show less
Sweet, reassuring message; nice simple rhyme. Pay attention to the teddy bear as well as the child in the illustrations.

I Love You Through and Through
llustrated by Caroline Jayne Church. 2005. $8.95. Cartwheel Book (Scholastic). 0-439-67363-1. Ages infant-3.

This heartfelt book presents the love one feels for a child as a sum of all the baby’s parts. It features illustrations of a toddler-age boy and his teddy bear, reminiscent of Charlie Brown, with simple facial features, minimal backgrounds, and quiet colors. Using friendly artwork and familiar words, each of the toddler’s emotions, actions, and body parts are presented as the focus of the reader’s love. Even when the toddler’s behavior is presented a tad unpleasantly, the message of unconditional love remains. Few words are presented on each spread, allowing the show more reader ample space for interaction between reader, child, and text. As it is sure to inspire love and affection, this book would make a great addition to bedtime readings. At roughly the size of small notebook, this board book feels rather large for baby-sized hands; however, the cover, featuring rounded corners with no hard edges, is both soft and sturdy, and would practically and positively enhance a baby book collection. show less
I can recite this book by heart I have read it to my 6-year-old almost every day since she was 1. This book is rhyming which gives it a great rhythm. The illustrations are of a teddy bear and little boy and how he loves all sides of him, happy side, sad side, made side, glad side.
I Love You through and through by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak

I Love You through a sweet picture book that is made to show and explain different ways people love you. The books walks us through moments when a child is happy, sad, silly, exc. The books help represent that the child is love “through and through”. The theme of the books goes nicely with the pictures because it helps explain that the book is about unconditional love. The colors used give the book a softer tone, while the pictures drawn show love. The pictures also match every emotion and help show the way the child is loved. This book can help reflect emotions, reassure them, and support their feelings. The book also allows kids to understand what it says due to show more repetition and rhyming. show less

Babies and toddlers will feel loved all over when they hear this declaration of adoration and affection! The book has sturdy cardstock pages and a padded cover with rounded corners for safe handling by little ones.
Summary: This is a short book full of "I Love Yous". The author writes all the things a mother might say to her child, in this case a little boy and his teddy bear. The book goes through all the the things you could love about someone; head to toe, inside and out, happy and sad. The illustrations make it very clear what the author is talking about. The pictures are good for young listeners to associate the words with a picture of something they already know.

Personal Reaction: This book is very cute. It is best for younger children with a short attention span because it is very short. The pictures are vibrant and fun. My little one liked hearing the words "I love your" come out of my mouth. He smiled with every page and begged me to show more read it again.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1.) I would ask the children to act out each page as I read it again. For Example: on the page that says, "I Love your toes", I would have them point to their toes. And on the page that says, "I Love your happy side", and "Your sad side", I would have them show me their happy face and their sad face.

2.) For Kindergarteners, I would do a drawing excersise. The pictures in the book show a boy and his teddy bear. I would ask the kids to draw a picture that they love "through and through".

3.) With second or late in the year first grade, I'd ask them to draw the picture but add a brief explanation to go with it. Who is the person? What do you love most about them?
