Description

Excerpt from Tannh user: A Dramatic Poem Thuringia. She furnishes the suggestion for the beautiful character, pure and lofty, of the Elizabeth of Wagner's drama, the direct con trast to the evil and voluptuous Venus. Eliza beth had not been mentioned in these previous sources. This third source thus gave what was needed for the exquisite portrait of one of the noblest of Wagner's heroines. Text of an opera about a guy who falls for Venus and after leaves her as endless pleasure becomes tiresome. Having sinned by indulging in physical pleasure he asks god for forgiveness and is granted it, for the low low price of his would-be girlfriend killing herself. God really is a bit of a tool.
