This book's illustrations were fantastic to me. I love how the opening of the book includes a real picture of the president getting sworn into office, it was a lovely touch. I think books like this are important because they help us teach younger children about slavery. Since slavery was so long ago children don't really know much about it, which is why I think books like this are so important. My favorite part of this book was the caption "The end and the Beginning," that line has a lot of meaning. Abraham Lincoln has always been such an inspiration to me, I fell in love with this book.
I liked this book because Abe Lincoln wanted to stop slavery. I also remember in school that he wanted to stop further slavery but not take away the slaves already in bondage. He also read the DOI saying "all WHITE men are created equal". This is interesting coming from a white man's voice. Abe Lincoln was a good man who tried to make all equal and many were sad when he died.
This would be a great to use during a presentation or lesson plan about presidents. Abraham Lincoln is one of my favorite presidents and such an inspirational story of courage to stand up against what just isn't right.
The telling tale of Honest Abe. This book talks about how Abraham Lincoln felt morally ill about slavery. After hearing Stephen Douglas gave a speech on the new states deciding for themselves whether or not they wanted slavery, Lincoln took action. In 1858, Lincoln lost the election for a chair in the senate. Little did he know, many people were listening and an election was soon coming. November 6, 1860, Lincoln won the election. The south was not too happy about him winning and decided to make their own country. At the Battle of Bull Run, Abraham Lincoln gave the Emancipation Proclamation.
Lincoln has always been my favorite president. He was the one who had a different aspect about slavery. This would be an awesome book to use during president discussion.
