As another reviewer said, "always a chore, never a pleasure".

good to read a New Advnture that deliberately and successfully played up the comedy - this often misfires for me, but in this case I was able to roll with the very alien creatures and their sinister plans while also sympathising very much with the confused new companions Roz and Chris; like them, I was never completely convinced that I knew what was going on, but it was fun and kept me engaged. This is a cool story, if a little verbose in places. And I didn't like the pagination of the footnotes where they always went over two pages, not sure what that was all about. ( )

Epigraph
All the world's a stage,And all the men and women merely players.William ShakespeareAs You Like It
Away, then, with these Lewd, Ungodly Diversions, and which are but impertinence at the best. What part of impudence either in Words or Practice, is omitted by the Stage? Don't the Buffoons take almost all manner of Liberties, and plunge through Thick and Thin, to make a Jest?St Clement of Alexandria, Works
As I was going up the stair,I met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today;I wish to God he'd go away.Trad

First words
The System, in circumference, circumscribes some fifty-thousand leagues, and all of it on the inside: a perfect gaseous globe, encapsulated by an electrostatic Möbeus bubble-shell, through which the four high-density wanderers spin around the Sun.
