Pearl receives new ice skates for her birthday. She was very excited when she was finally able to skate on the frozen pond. Once Pearl went onto the skating ring, she had trouble skating. It was very difficult so she gave up. Her uncle convinced her to go to the pond early one morning and he would help her skate. Once her uncle helped her she loved skating and spent the entire day skating with her friend. ( )

Pearl's New Skates is a great story that teaches readers to never give up and to be persistent. Pearl is a pig that dreams of twirling on her new ice skates, when she gets on the ice she falls again and again. I enjoyed reading this story for many reasons. First, because of the illustrations. I think they made the story more interesting. Next, I like the characters. Pearl felt discouraged and wanted to give up, but her uncle encouraged her to keep trying. All in all, it was a fun book to read. ( )

Pearl is so excited to try out her new skates on the pond outside her house. She rejects help with getting onto the ice from her Uncle and when she falls down in front of other people, Pearl is discouraged from trying to skate again. Uncle Jack brings her onto the ice when no one else is there and after a few attempts, Pearl is able to skate all by herself.
This is a good book to use to give kids the message of "practice makes perfect". Not everyone is great at an activity the first time they try it and that's okay. ( )
