Part of the Nature of Desire series When his father dies, Thomas is forced to abandon a burgeoning art career in New York. As difficult as it was to give up his lifelong dream, it's nothing next to walking away from the man he loves. Marcus taught him to embrace who he is, a sexual submissive who responds to the touch of only one Master. But why would the sophisticated Marcus need some farm kid from the South? Then Marcus shows up and offers him a way to continue his art career and help his family. There's only one hitch-he asks Thomas to spend a week with him in the Berkshires. Thomas knows he should refuse. But he's never been able to say no to his Master.… (more)

This BDSM-themed erotic romance follows Marcus and Thomas as they try to navigate the things about their lives and responsibilities they think will keep them apart and find a way to be together. A solid story underpins this romance, and I was invested in seeing how these two were going to work themselves out. At first I was afraid the novel was going to be mostly sex and little plot, but eventually all the emotion that is simmering under everything right from the start came to a head (sorry, sorry, sorry) and the real meat of the plot got going. As is so often true of romance novels, some of the best scenes are not between the two leads but between one of them and someone else who means something to them. A couple of such scenes in this one were killer (not that there weren't *also* excellent, effecting scenes between the heroes as well). If I had any complaint, it is that (again, like so many erotic romances I've read), the book feels top heavy when it comes to sex. In the first third or so, I was absolutely exhausted by how much sex was on the page, ("Dang, they're going to do it again?") and in the last third or so, the sex largely fades to black. It just feels uneven. That said, if this is the kind of book you enjoy, recommended. ( )

Rumble!! Sensational!! Sexy sexier!!! Whoa!! What the fuck smack me right now? Oh yeah that’s Marcus, darlings!!!! Absolutely gorgeous alpha facade Dom. The bittersweet reverie shared between the suave Marcus (did I mention lustful) and rustic Thomas sets a trance of sensual blending of distinct yet emotionally overwhelming relation. The empathetic whimper for Thomas swirled with thorny reservations of seizing lost love makes Marcus a complex yet vulnerable Dom. The sex is remarkable with a hint of Claire Thompson’s flair for passionately perilous bondage exploit.

Hill sketches a fine portrait of simmering sensuality blossoming on the crossroads of excruciating past and a cynical present.
