Rowdy Rhodes, AKA Rob Yarbro is a former train robber and wanted man trying to hide from his past and start a new life. Sam O'Ballivan offers him the job of Marshal of Stone Creek and he gets a taste for being on the right side of the law. Lark Morgan is on the run from a wealthy and powerful abusive ex-husband, working as a Stone Creek's schoolteacher. The two uncover each others secrets as they fall for each other.
A sweet romance with good characterization, excellent chemistry between the two leads, and a good deal of suspense thrown in. Worth a read for fans of the genre.
Really enjoyed this. Well rounded, well developed characters.
The second book in Linda Lael Miller's Stone Creek series. A great read full of action and adventure centering around a reformed train robber and a schoolmarm who's not what she seems.
entertaining, predictable, good beach read
From BackCover:
The past has a way of catching up with folks in Stone Creek, Arizona. So schoolmarm Lark Morgan and Marshal Rowdy Rhodes are determined to hide their secrets—and deny their instant attraction. That shouldn't be too hard, since each suspects the other of living a lie.

Her too-fancy clothes and big-city ways inspire gossip all over town; his blond good looks and impudent grin belong to a man sporting a gunfighter's coat.

But Rowdy and Lark have one truth in common: the very real dangers they face. Like the gang of robbers wreaking havoc on the railroad heading toward Stone Creek—the men Ranger Sam O'Ballivan expects Rowdy to nab. And as past and current troubles collide, Rowdy and Lark must surrender their stubborn show more pride to the greatest power of all—an undying love. show less
