This is my favorite sort of book. Sigh.
Written in 1967, it is the memoir of Frankie and Johnny O'Rear, and their time serving as the innkeepers of a Canadian bush ski lodge. They began this venture with no knowledge or training; a far cry from what any modern couple would do as they set out to make their way after marrying.
The book follows the first few seasons pretty closely and wraps up with an explanation that this is pretty much the way the whole twelve years went. Eventually, Frankie became pregnant a second time and they decided their 8 year old son needed a firmer foundation, and playmates his own age.
Their book inspired the Walt Disney film, "Snowball Express." If you've never seen the film, I encourage you to.
