Touchant et plutôt maladroit, ce "récit" écrit par une femme, épouse dominée et mère dépassée, au moment où son mari est victime d'un très grave accident vasculaire. Peu banal de par le ton employé, les situations un peu atypiques pour l'époque ( années 80) : inceste, homosexualité, ce roman évoque aussi la dure condition des femmes dominées par des maris qui, sans scrupules, prennent des maîtresses et veulent continuer à régenter toute la vie familiale. La fin du livre est assez inattendue le style d'écriture un peu simpliste, mais peut-être est-ce en raison de la traduction ?

Rose Tremain was born in London, England on August 2, 1943. She has written several novels including The Way I Found Her, Merivel: A Man of His Time, and The American Lover. Restoration was adapted into a movie in 1995 and a stage production in 2009. She has won numerous awards including the James Tait Memorial Prize and the Prix Femina Etranger show more for Sacred Country, the Whitbread Novel of the Year Award for Music and Silence, and the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2008 for The Road Home.
