The Worst Witch Strikes Again

Impulse grab from the library (hardcover Viking Kestrel which I should add but am too sick to). I can tell that the first book would have been delightful. This was fun, but seemed a little clumsy, as if the author just wasn't sure where to go with the overall story arc. Very short, could be read aloud in just a few nights.

In fact, would be good for read-alouds because there are some ideas that families could discuss, such as how not to let another naughty child get you in trouble. Esp. for ages 5-8.

The illustrations are utterly beguiling. I love the ones done in silhouette, esp. with Mildred's long braids. And a certain page with the pair of troublemakers (and friend) in 'before' and 'after' poses is hilarious, because it's actually show more only Mildred who reacts.

Poor unlucky Mildred Hubble cannot catch a break — especially when she’s told to mentor a new unruly and impulsive new student, Enid Nightshade. Not as good as the debut novel nor as good as the television show, but still enjoyable.

3.5 stars - This was a trip back to the past for me. Loved reading the whole series when I was younger and love just the same now.
