This book is such a cute story! It shows kindness from strangers that take care of a possibly stray cat until the owner of the cat comes to find the cat. It is also a easy read for beginning readers (words are not hard to read or understand) and when I used it with my student at my internship, when she didn't know a word or what the sentence was saying, she looked at the picture. The pictures explain what is going on in the story.
Rylant is an excellent author. This simple early chapter book series is worth saving until a student can read on his own (maybe read the first one aloud to get them hooked).
I have a lot of respect for Henry's mom. In some ways I want to be her, with a big porch & yard & trees, and long dresses and bare feet - but I don't want a huge slobbery dog, thank you.
This is such a fun and loving book. Henry and his best friend (dog) mudge fall in love with this stray cat that arrives on their front porch. Henry's parents do not want to keep this shabby cat, so they made posters for a lost cat. The cat's owner found him and took the cat back, but it left Henry and Mudge sad. The nice owner who was a police officer knew that they loved the cat, so he sent a present (bones and a badge) to Mudge and Henry from the cat Dave. Great read aloud and easy to follow!
A contemporary realistic fiction about a funny looking stay cat being taken in by a boy and his dog. Realizing they can not keep it, they begin to search for an owner. When the owner arrives the whole family comes together to comfort each others sorrow. I realy liked this book. The story has all types of emotions, from happy to sad and from love to loss. It will help teach children to be kind to stray animals, to deal with emotions, and doing the right thing even when it hurts.
Henry and his 180-pound dog Mudge are best friends forever. And when they meet a scruffy but lovable cat, it looks like they've made a new friend!
Henry finds a cat outside and it becomes part of the family. When its owner comes, they miss it, but feel a little bit better with a present of dog bones and a police badge for Mudge and Henry.
