Dresser has also written a book I've previously read on mourning the loss of a loved one. This older book examines a project she pursued early on at California State University, Los Angeles. Looking at the concept of Vampires from a wide observational sociological perspective. She says that Vampires are a fiction that have largely been accepted by the American public. Accepted meaning that the vampire symbolism has been reintegrated into the American media perception. As such it is not an artifact of the past but a moving aspect of folklore in the present. This book gives a wide view of the many ways in which versions of Dracula have spiraled off from Irishman Stoker's original creature. Dresser says that Ray Bradbury gave a talk at a show more USC horror film festival in 1987. Greek historian Herodotus mentions a tale he himself did not believe of one local man who shifted his shape to a wolf at night, become a werewolf. I have collected a few books on Dracula and folklore around mythic literature. This books spends too much time on surveys of bizarre people to justify her research on items of folklore. This book is best on Vampires in relation to popular media depictions. Folklore was often previously called anthropology. B&W photos, Index, Bibliography. show less
