Absolutely worth reading, and if you think that the movie was probably better you need to think again.

McCarthy continues to impress, with compelling dialogue, chilling imagery and great characters. Whereas the movie focuses on Anton Chigurh's character, through Llewelyn Moss, and especially Sheriff Ed Tom Bell, this tale becomes bigger than a criminal and his crimes, and turns into a condemnation of the descent of the glory of America, a place that can only embitter and disappoint those of older days.
A man comes across two million dollars in the desert, and is hunted down by a mysterious crazy person.

An interesting and suspenseful pseudo-Western. Great characters. It feels a lot longer than two hours - I don't know why, there's certainly not anything that I think should be cut - it's just the sort of thing that's meant to be slow. Music probably could have helped; there's very little score, and the few places it is used I didn't even notice it.

Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and more than two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande. (IMDb)
It is shot in such a style that it feels like an old Western. The long, single shots and the gritty sand swept desert. Still fatal flaws make this one a poor choice. The theme of good vs. evil is presented, but deciding who falls into these categories is no easy feat due to the ambiguity of the novels flawed characters. Chigurh (Bardem) can be seen as loyal and honest, just as Bell (Jones) can be seen as cowardly and misleading. Moss (Brolin) is greedy and ruthless, yet caring and brave. What's clear is that every person has the ability to vacillate between the two sides, and that when all is said and done, survival of the fittest dictates the last man standing. And on the flip side, sometimes people get lucky, cowards included. The show more ultimate authors' message is that control is an illusion. Both Chigurh with his coin toss and Moss with his advice to the runaway help to convey this truth. The bottom line is, I felt frustrated and cheated by the ending. In the last 20 minutes the movie loses steam and kills its own momentum and immersion , then crawls on before dying out and credits start rolling . The film goes down hill when, outside of the viewer's sight, it cheaply kills off the main character, Moss, by Mexicans who also want the money. We don't see the kill, there is no showdown of any kind between Moss and Chigurh, and after that death the film literally just goes to pieces. show less
