This book is a great example of realistic fiction, because the story is centered between two brothers who are leaning life lessons together. Many of the events and occurrences they encounter can be easily relatable to children, as they most likely have encountered many of the same problems. However, the brothers learn to lean on each other when they need assistance, and the author captures the fact that brothers have a stronger bond than many friendships. Overall, children will be engaged throughout the book, as there are scenarios presented in the book that are specifically designed toward the mindset of children.

Genre: Realistic Fiction Age Appropriateness: Intermediate Review: This book is a good example of realistic fiction because the narrative presents a true depiction of life set in present day. Conflicts in these books are problems that people face in real life. Readers are able to imagine themselves encountering similar situations. In the story, a boy has mixed feelings about his five-year-old brother, Eli, who never wants to leave his side. However, his little brother ends up rescuing him when he hurts his ankle. In the end, he realizes how helpful Eli is and appreciates his company. Media: This book is a good example of ink and wash media because the pictures are outlined with ink and filled with watercolors. Ink and wash has very clean lines with well blended colors as filling.
