The book starts out rather slow but pulls you in because you wait to get to the "real" romancing part and this author makes you wait. Not a bad concept. There are too many paragraphs about every teeny tiny detail (which can be a drag the book out and a boring tactic). Would have preferred more dialogue between the characters. How many times can we be told in one book how handsome the main character is? His good looks was overkill. There were times that only a new paragraph appeared to separate time from one scene to another. Interesting to note that the time period was when Scotland had lost battles against England. (1746: The Battle of Culloden ends the second Jacobite rising.) There was hardship on the surviving Scots. The English show more occupied Scotland and Scotland wanted its independence back. show less
Heat of the Knight by Jackie Ivie

Lisle MacHugh is out on the moor trying to find auld Angus MacHugh, he's out wandering the the with two items the English have forbidden(pistol and bag pipes). The English are out to kill him, when they find Lisle, highland lasses are not safe with the English. The Black Monteith interrupts and spirits the lass away.

The wealthy Langston Leed Monteith, aka the Black Monteith, a powerful Scottish Laird has a very bad reputation, and does deserve some of it. He is working to free Scotland from the oppression visited on it by William the Butcher, and Captain Barton and his so called Highland Rangers
