I found it an interesting diversion but a bit formulaic of a read. I didn't like how far the author let the characters take things before reining them in, and in the second story, there was a bit of deceit from the main character.
Debbie Macomber has written much better stories than these. These are superficial and full of stereotypes and cliches - it seemed like they were written in the 1980s because of the views of the characters. If you are a fan of this author you will be disappointed and if you are coming to her for the first time then try the Cedar Cove books, significantly better.
I have to say this has been my least favorite Debbie Macomber book so far. I overall struggled to stay engaged with the first novel and the flow of it was not appealing to read. However the 2nd novel in the book kept me engaged. Overall wasnt a bad novel just not one of my favorite.
The Manning Sisters is an omnibus of the first two novels by Debbie Macomber in the six-part Manning series. The first novel, The Cowboy’s Lady, has rancher Russ Palmer falling in love with the new teacher in town, city-girl Taylor Manning. Neither are convinced they are right for each other, although to everyone around them, it is quite plain to see. The second novel, The Sheriff Takes a Wife, has the sheriff (and Russ Palmer’s friend), Cody Franklin falling for Taylor’s sister Christy when she arrives to help out as Taylor gives birth. The spanner in the works is that Christy is already engaged. In both novels, the parents are denied the elaborate wedding they hoped to give their daughters, city girls who end up living in Custer show more County. Another two delightful Macomber romances. show less
