“THE TALE OF TOM KITTEN” follows the story of Tom Kitten and his two siblings Moppet and Mittens. The main theme I picked up on from this book was mischief, as Tom and his siblings didn’t listen to their mother about keeping their clothes clean.
“THE TALE OF TOM KITTEN” is classified as a picture book as it uses illustrations to match the text on each page. One of the literary elements I noticed that the author used, was to enlarge the first word on every page, and bold the first letter of that word. Many of the first words on each page were easy-to-read words such as once, but, as, etc. I think that this could be helpful to beginning readers, as they are easy-to-read, recognizable words. The main theme of mischief is shown show more throughout the book as Tom Kitten and his siblings get their nice clothes dirty and show up without them after their mother told them to keep their clothes clean.
The book teaches the lesson that mischief can have consequences. This is shown in the book as Tom Kitten and his siblings were sent to their room and unable to attend the tea party. I personally enjoyed this book as a kid, and remember picking up on the lessons/ themes of it! show less

Cute and sweet and all that stuff. The classic, of course, is Peter Rabbit. but Tom Kitten is in the same vein - though Peter is considerably more active than Tom, who mostly seems to follow his sisters around. Nor is there any sort of moral to this one - except maybe that mothers who want their children to look good for guests shouldn't send them out unsupervised in their good clothes! Glad I read it, don't need to ever read it again.
I have only read one other book by this author before reading The Tale of Tom Kitten. The pictures are adorable, the story is cute, and I think younger children and their parents would enjoy reading about the naughty deeds of the three kittens in the story.
Fairly dull tale of kitteny mischief. In its favour, the pictures are lifelike as usual, at least as far as clothed bipedal animals can be. And I did learn the word "tucker" (item of clothing).
I like these books mostly for having seen Miss Potter, but the little kittens are adorable and of course I love the paintings.
A mother cat hopes in vain to keep her kittens clean and well dressed for a tea party. She does not take into consideration the nature of kittens.
