Oodles of Animals by Lois Ehlert is a picture book on different kinds of animals. What’s unique about this book is that the animal pictures are all made out of different colored shapes only. The pages are categorized by types of animals and give small details about each animal. When Lois Ehlert describes the animals, he uses rhyming. I think this would be a good way to have children recognize different animals because they aren’t what they are used to seeing. ( )

Oodles of Animals (Lois Ehlert) NY: Harcourt Inc: 2018

Picture Book, After 1980

Summary: This book uses colorful paper art to go along with poems describing animals. The rhymes are short and easy to read.

Critique: The paper art is unique and fun. If readers done know what the animals look like, they get to put a name to the face.

Activity (after): Recite a quick rhyme about your favorite animal.

A book of poetry about various animals. Young children would enjoy looking at the illustrations and listening for the rhyming words. Older children could create their own poem about an animal. ( )
