No matter how good a puppy wants to be or think he or she is being good, it takes time to train it. The puppy in the story believes he is being good, but then he gets fused at and thinks he is a bad puppy. His owner teaches him the right way to do things and the puppy realizes he can still be a good puppy even when you make mistakes.

Genre: Fiction
Age(s): 4-8
The Perfect Puppy explains why puppies are the way that they are. Puppies want to please their owners all the time but they usually go the completely wrong way about it! They don't mean to tear up the toilet paper, chew on your shoes, or make a mess in the water bowl- it's just how they are! They get entertained by the smallest things! In this book, the puppy wants to be perfect for his human. He doesn't understand why he keeps getting scolded and runs away because he thought his human didn't love him. His human found him in the rain and took him home. She told the puppy he was the perfect puppy no matter how many mistakes he made, and the puppy was content. I would read this story up until the second grade. I'd probably see if the kids show more had a puppy and see if it would relate to their puppy experiences. I think it teaches that you can't try to be perfect, that you're perfect the way you are. show less
this book is a good book for a child who wants to get a puppy. I like that its a easy read and that many kids can relate to it.
The Perfect Puppy is about a puppy who says he is going to do everything perfect so he can make his owner happy. The puppy ends up doing things he shouldn't like eating his owner's homework and not going on the paper. One day after he does something wrong his owner yells at him and puppy is upset. He leaves the house to try and find a new home. While hiding out in the bushes he hears his owner calling for him. The puppy ends up realizing what he should and shouldn't do and becomes the perfect puppy. This story was very cute. It shows that if you try to hard at something you might end up making mistakes.
