The author has stripped away the obscurity and fearfulness of spiritual direction and shown it to be basically good Christian common sense, rooted and grounded in the love of God in Christ, and enabled by the Holy Spirit to be effective. It took me a long time to get through this, not because it’s long (only 130 pages), but because it’s quite deep, and at times seemed disjointed. It was written in 1982 yet still very much applicable to us today in 2017. It’s heavy theologically, somewhat philosophical, and an interesting read if you can plow through some of his thinking. no reviews | add a review
This new edition explores spiritual direction in the wider context of Christian friendship. Insisting on the need to undertake spiritual direction as an act of worship within a faith community, Jones goes on to look at the part that spiritual warfare, vulnerability, imagination, contemplation, and sacrifice all play in the work of spiritual guidance.Copyright © Libri GmbH.
