This was recommended to me by a tablemate at a library retreat. I was underwhelmed. I may not be into the whole leadership thing. It just seems so calculated, and the angle of the book sullies Lincoln. At one point, early on, there was a sentence that included 'great leaders' and Lincoln and Hitler. I should have quietly put it down and walked away.
The book contains some very good advice. It is a bit slow reading at times, which is why I gave it the low rating of "just ok." Basically, you get the principle, then an illustration of the principle from Lincoln's life and work. At the end of each chapter you then get some bullet points which summarize the chapter nicely. For people just wanting to scan, those bullet points would be the way to go. It is interesting to read about Lincoln, but as I said, the prose at times can be a bit dry. However, I still think the book is worth a look, and it is not too heavy.
One of the best books on leadership I've read. A bonus is that you get a little history as well!
Quick read and many good stories of Lincoln and his strength of character.
This book shows President Lincoln in a new light focusing on his principles of leadership. The book portrays how his character and personality directly influenced his leadership style. Each chapter also has a summary page of the "Lincoln Principles" that were covered in each chapter.
The author discusses leadership from the aspects of people, character, endeavor, and communication. The book is a quick read and worth the time it takes to read.
This book really outlines Lincoln's leadership style and how that affected events related to the civil war.
