It’s winter and the children are excited to see so much snow! They’ve come outside to roll snowballs; it doesn’t take long for them to make two big ones and a small one for their snowman’s head. Coal buttons; coal eyes; a button nose; a straw broom. Floppy galoshes; a scarf; a pair of mittens. But they can’t find a hat that’s just right.

Until the wind blows a top hat right down the street! “What a special hat!” they cry. “It’s just like magic!”

And it is, indeed, a magic hat. What will happen next?

A delightful retelling of the classic story of Frosty the Snow Man, told especially for the young reader, ages two through five. Colorful illustrations and a well-known and often-told story work together to make show more this a special book to share with the youngest readers.

Follow the story as the children show Frosty around town and, although he goes away on that sunny day, the policeman reassures the children. Frosty will be back whenever great heaps of snowflakes fall.

Highly recommended.

Adapted from the song of the same name, this Little Golden Book tells the story of how Frosty the Snow Man came to life when the children found a magical hat and placed it on his head.

Young readers will delight in the charming tale and the colorful pictures. It’s a perfect snowy winter book for parents to snuggle up and share with their children.

Recommended.
Frosty the Snowman is a fantasy because snowmen can’t really come to life and talk. This book is about a group of kids who make a snowman. When they are looking for a hat for him one just appears out of nowhere and the snowman magically comes to life when the hat is placed on his head. Teachers could read this story to their children during the winter time. This is a book that teachers wouldn’t have to worry about reading around the holidays because it doesn’t have anything to do with Christmas; it’s just about snow and winter. After reading the book teachers could have their students write about what they would do with their snowman that came to life and have them draw a picture of what their snowman looked like and share it show more with the class. The illustrations in this book are very colorful yet simple. show less

Frosty the Snow Man by Annie North Bedford

Frosty the Snow Man was born in 1950 as the subject of a phonograph record, and soon after appeared in many different forms. He has been in numerous Thanksgiveing Day and Christmas Parades. Unlike other snow men, he is at home even in the warmest parts fo the United States.

Thi s is a wonderful book to share with children of all ages.

Have students find onomatopeia's throughout the story.

School Library Journal
Based on the song about beloved Frosty.
The pictures look like they are from 1950s, which would explain why 5 and 6 year olds are going downtown by themselves.
