Wyl continues to try to work out what's going on and how to fight to save those he loves particularly the queen.

The concept is pretty pretty interesting but somehow it just seemed to be following a well-trodden path to a conclusion. Interesting but lacked the promise of the first book

QUICKENING TRILOGY

Nu dringt de tijd voor Wyl, die er, ondanks inspanning na inspanning niet in is geslaagd zijn persoonlijke problemen - die allemaal verband houden met het raadsel van de Bezieling - op te lossen. Zijn aartsrivaal Celimus staat op het punt in het huwelijk te treden met Wyls grote liefde, koningin Valentyna, en in zijn huidige gedaante kan Wyl onmogelijk ingrijpen.

De eens zo dappere en onvermoeibare jeugdige aanvoerder van het Morgraviaanse legioen is ten einde raad. Wat er ook zal gebeuren, Wyl zal zich moeten schikken naar de wijze raad en de waarschuwingen van de manheks: Myrrens geschenk zal voor niemand buigen.

Bovendien dreigen de gebeurtenissen in Morgravia, Briavel en het Bergrijk opnieuw een noodlottige wending te nemen. Het lot show more van drie naties blijkt af te hangen van de buitengewone gaven van Vink, een jongen nog maar, en van andere magie dan alleen de grillige Bezieling.

Van de andere betrokkenen gaat Elspyth op zoek gaat naar haar Lothryn, en ook zij treft de nodige problemen op haar pad. Vink gaat op weg om Rashlyn voorgoed de mond te snoeren. En Wyl? Hij zal eindelijk ondervinden wat Myrrens geschenk, de Bezieling, hem zal opleveren. Is het een reddend geschenk, of een levenslange vloek die zelfs de dood overstijgt? show less
