Kramer is typically thought-provoking and challenging. In some ways, it's the anti-self help book....really trying to replicate the processes that unfold in therapy sessions, especially when clients seek advice about "leaving"--i.e., intimacy in general. Kramer's chosen writing style--envisioning each chapter as a session with a protagonist patient--can be frustrating--perhaps as frustrating as a coaching/therapy session itself.
This is one of the finest books on the reposnibility of the therapist to his patient, to his friends and to his or herself.Peter Kramer can be a bit strange at times but this book as well as Moments of Engagement is a modern classic
