We're Going on a Leaf Hunt is a fun way to teach children different types of leaves, descriptive language, and words that represent sounds. The repetition makes it easy for young readers to join in on the fun. Appropriate for grades K-2.
This is just like "We're Going On A Bear Hunt". A group of children are going on a leaf hunt and reach obsticles on their journey to find leaves. At one point, they reach a bush that has a skunk in it, so they have to quickly journey back the way they came. This book is full of wonderful words, and it also has mini-lessons about different types of tree.
This picture book by Steve Metzger teaches young readers about different kinds of trees that the children from the book encounter as they go on their leaf hunt. Its illustrations are bright, as it features colorful leaves and contains a fall theme. It has rhythmic and repetitive words which help enhance children’s phonological awareness.
Summary:
Three friends are taking a walk in the forest and looking at all the colorful leaves. On the way the encounter a mountain, forest, waterfall, and a skunk. The three friends find all types of leaves from all types of different trees.
Personal Reaction:
I love how this book is written like the bear hunt song. This book also describes many of the trees and there leaves. The kids have fun walking in the forest and over the mountains, but when they see the skunk they realize they are in trouble and need to make a run for it.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. I would love to read this book to the class during the fall time of the year. Since it talks about all the the kinds of trees there are it would be a great learning book as well.
2. show more After reading this book, I would love to take the class on a leaf walk so they could find their own leaves. We could do a leaf rub when we return back to the class for their art. show less

We're Going on a Leaf Hunt is a great story to read to students during the fall season where they can learn about fall, all the colors, and the nature surrounding it. I'd recommend this story for first and second graders.
I nice book with good rhythm. Easy for young readers do to the small words and predictability.
We're on a leaf hunt is about a group of children on a search for the prettiest leaves they can find. They hit obstacles but they end up making it home safe. This is a very cute book.
