I love this book because it shows a great example of fantasy. This story is about a young boy who follows his dog at night. His dog came out of the limousine and wonder what his dog does. Come to find out his dog runs a club where other dogs dance, sing, and talk. His dog is a manager at a night club. This story is entertaining, and the illustrations are colorful, very detailed. I know the child would love this story. I believe the theme is imagination.
A kid follows their "boring" dog one night, only to discover "the Doghouse," a dogs-only club where dogs "come after a hard day" to "relax." Styled as an old-fashioned speakeasy complete with booths, a piano, a lounge singer, and dancing. The kid returns home, pleased with the secret.
This is a fun children's picture book about the night a young boy followed his dog. The boy used to think his dog was ordinary, until the morning he saw him get out of a limousine wearing a tuxedo. The next night he followed him to see where he went and discovered that his dog had a fancy doghouse and then he traveled to a nightclub for dogs that his dog owns! His dog explains that it's a place for dogs to relax after a difficult day and just be dogs. This story keeps readers in suspense to find out what happens when his dog disappears. One could also discuss the interesting switch in power when the boy leaves his "world" and enters the world of his dog and the dog is a big deal. Mainly though, I just like to think of it as a “what show more if” book or to imagine what dogs really think or do when we aren't around like the author says. The illustrations in this book are nicely painted and uses mostly muted or soft colors with the occasional pop or color. The best part of the book, besides the story itself is the actual text. It is hand lettered and the author has turned key words into doodles. This really helps young readers to learn and recognize those specific vocab words and can even allow them to read them along with an adult if they are still learning to read. For example the word garbage was placed inside a doodle of a garbage bag so kids can associate the word with the picture. They draw your attention and keep you interested in the story. Teachers could have their students use their imaginations and come up with a story about their own pets when they aren't around and if they don't have a pet they can write using a pet they would like to have. show less
Children must love this book but I love it too. Every child has wondered what their dolls and toys do when they are not around. Some might wonder what their pets do when they’re not around as well. Well, in this fun and colorful book, it tells readers exactly what they do. I loved how extreme this book is with the events taking place. The dog has its little doghouse outside where the dog has a bathroom, tv, and clothes inside. Once his owners goes to bed, the dog puts on his suit, gets picked up in a limo, and goes to a dog club that he owns. What child wouldn’t want to read this book? This book takes imagination to a whole other level. I love how creative this story is. In the club, the dogs get to do “dog things”, like sit on show more the couch, gets treats without doing tricks, and chew on shoes. This is a time for dogs to relax just like people do all the time. The moral of this story is to have an imagination and to believe that anything can happen. show less

I liked this picture book for several reasons. First, the entire book was very suspenseful as it kept readers on their toes not knowing what the dog would do next. It was very suspenseful as one can only imagine what kind of trouble their pets get into while they are not home. The story was very believable because the author used such descriptive words to describe the actions, dialogue, and inside thoughts of each character. I think that I really liked this book because when I was little I always would wonder what my dog would do when we left the house. I always imagined that they had parties with other dogs or something unrealistic and silly. However, I believe that young readers may find this relatable as they have pets of their own show more and may offer a chance to use their imagination. Finally, the illustrations helped to show the humor of the story and present a visual image of some challenging or unfamiliar words. For example, the word tuxedo may not be familiar to young children but the illustration presented on that particular page is of the dog in a white tuxedo. The pictures really help to bring the crazy actions that the dog did to life. The main idea of this book was to tell a story of a dog sneaking out of the house and being followed by their owner, for the fun and enjoyment of readers. show less
This story is hilarious. A little boy follows his dog at night. His dog gets out of a limousine and goes to a night club, which the dog is in charge of. At the nightclub, their are other dogs are singing and dancing as well. As the night ends the dog goes back home in the morning as if nothing ever happened. This book as to be one of my favorite children's books, it reminds me a lot of Toy Story in the sense of not knowing what your toys, or in this case his dog, does when they think no one is watching. I am sure children reading this will now want to stay up and watch what their pets do at night when they are asleep. I do not see the underlying "lesson" if you will in this book, nonetheless, it is a funny book to read to your children show more if you want to make them laugh. I really enjoyed this! show less

This was a very cute picture book that younger children will definitely be entertained. It will certainly have children wondering if their dogs go on similar adventures at night. The boy in the story thought that he had a normal dog yet he was wrong. His dog goes off in a limousine to adventure with other dogs at night and comes back home the following morning as if nothing had happened. His dog explains that this is done to allow each dog to have a normal life and be themselves.
