Description
Atlantis is a majestic, epic poem and a lasting jewel of Catalan literary tradition. With a colossal architecture and a descriptive power that creates memorable passages of prodigious beauty - the vision of the garden of the Hesperides and the dream of Queen Isabel are just some examples - this poem was the winner of the Jocs Florals in 1877, the forging work of the modern Catalan literary language, and earned Verdaguer literary recognition in and outside of Catalonia.Tags

Inspired by the Heracles legend about the extinction of Atlantis, Verdaguer composes a hymn to the reinvigorated Catalonia after long times of suppression.

Muntat de tos navilis en l'ala beneïda
busquí de les Hespèrides, lo taronger en flor;
mes ai! és ja despulles
de l'ona que ha tants segles se n'és ensenyorida,
i sols puc oferir-... (show all)te, si et plauen, eixes fulles
de l'arbre del fruit d'or.
