This is far weaker than its predecessor, the Dearmer / Vaughan Williams English Hymnal: it is much more likely to fiddle with the authors' texts, and the office hymn selection is nowhere nearly as complete. This is partly made up for by a few good hymns more recent than 1927.
Good for traditional Anglo-Catholic hymns
