I really wanted to like this book because of Waterdance, but was pretty disappointed. I found the characters unlikable, for the most part, the plot pretty boring until all the pieces tied up together at the end, and the world, although artificial by design, wasn't compelling to me. Although the main characters start out naive and mature over time, I never cared enough about them to be invested in that arc.
I always loved this book and all the author's other stories. I wish she had written more books. Her characters are approachable and yet appropriately foreign. The land is just obscure enough to not be ours but yet relatable enough to make it viable. I love her humor and her characterization.

It's no trouble at all to report that Guardian's Key may well be Anne Logston's strongest novel to date. Trying to classify the book, however, is another matter entirely. It isn't capital-L Literature of the "reading this will be good for you" school. As with Logston's previous books, her intent is clearly to entertain, and it's a task at which she succeeds admirably.
