This book is great for encouraging and embracing children’s imaginations, while also teaching them not to believe everything you hear. Arthur invites his two best friends over for a sleepover, where they stay outside in a tent. They've been hearing rumors of aliens' space ships landing, and when they see a light flashing outside of their tent, they panic. However, they soon realize it's D.W. playing a prank, so they decide to give her a taste of her own medicine and scare her back.
I liked this book for many reasons. First, the language used was directed at a primary level. The vocabulary was mainly site words with a very descriptive story telling aspect. The writing was engaging for students and humorous as they read the story. Being that this is a series book, the characters were not well developed in this book, but the reader knows a bit about the characters from the series as prior knowledge. the illustrations were a great addition to the writing of the book, as children could easily follow along using the pictures to improve comprehension. The main idea of the story is to not believe everything you hear. The boys believed that the aliens were coming so they let DW fool them, but in the end they got her back.
In "Arthur's First Sleepover," Arthur invites his two best friends over for a sleepover. where they stay outside in a tent. They've been hearing rumors of aliens' space ships landing, and when they see a light flashing outside their tent, they panic. However, they soon realize it's D.W. playing a prank, so they decide to give her a taste of her own medicine and scare her back. This book is good for work with fluency and comprehension. Also, I would bring out the moral of the story, which is not to believe everything you hear.
This book was really cute and made me want to have sleepovers again. The pictures are very detailed and as a fun activity, you could ask who all has had a sleepover. You could also have them share what the best prank they have ever gotten away with was.
It is Arthur's first sleepover and he invites Brain and Buster to stay the night. The three friends sleep outside in a tent. His sister, D.W., is determined to find an alien so she can send a picture into the National Requirer. In the mean time pranks are pulled on Author and his friends, and also on D.W.
As a huge fan of the television series, I was greatly disappointed at the lazy and sub-par writing of the books. The illustrations are very poorly done as well (especially if you have older editions of the books). Not good. just watch the show; it's on at seven on PBS every morning.
This book is about Arthur having a sleepover. He had rumors about sighing of an alien spaceship when his friends came over. This book is fun to read to children.
