estone07 "American Sirens" and "Report From Engine Company 82" both tell stories of their respective emergency services in the latter half of the 20th century. Each looks at a period of time where the books respective service became what we know and recognize today. I am a firefighter and a paramedic and firmly believe that each book should be required reading for newcomers to the field.

Oh how I loved this book. This is a must read for everyone that lives in the city -- especially an urban city. It's written in the 1970s and the rules / laws of firefighting have changed but not much has changed since then, unfortunately.

After reading this book you can write me down as a fan of firefighters and will happily read more novels on firefighting. I really have nothing more to say -- just read it and respect your firefighters!
A page-turner. A realistic look into the life of a firefighter at the busiest fire station in the country.
