This classic Little Golden Book uses realistic illustrations to share a story of a little girl becoming a big sister. When the new baby comes home, the little girl mimics her mother's actions as she cares for her own baby doll. This is a wonderful story to read to children anticipating the arrival of a new baby in the family.

"The New Baby" is archived on openlibrary.org. I'm old enough to love the book, to remember that I never noticed the problems* and anachronisms when I was a little girl. I looked a lot like the sturdy girl in this, and my trim, elegant mother a lot like the mother. I bet I will cry, if I happen to read this again after my mother passes.

*Despite the depiction of bottle-feeding, I nursed my babies. And, I have since learned, my very slightly younger brothers were nursed, too. A book didn't corrupt me!

Do I recommend the book? Only to certain readers. I bet you know who you are and I needn't say more.
