The Lion of Comarre - Richard Peyton III leaves his advanced society to find the mythical dream city of Comarre, a city of eternal, artificial pleasure. Peyton encounters the city, its automated caretakers, and the lion, a technological guardian, ultimately acting as a catalyst to stir the society from its dormancy.

Against the Fall of Night - Alvin is a resident of Diaspar, a technologically perfect, enclosed city, who becomes the first person in centuries to possess the desire to explore the outside world.

Alvin escapes Diaspar, discovers Lys, the outside world, learns of the past, and works to reunify humanity, bringing the world out of its stagnant stasis and looking toward the stars.

Later expanded by Clarke into The City and the Stars.
Two early works by SF great Arthur C. Clarke. Both of these were good stories but neither were up the the quality we expect for this author.

This is an omnibus of two of Clarke's novellas. The second was later turned into a novel, The City and the Stars. I can't say these are Clarke's best works. I read them years ago but have never had the slightest urge to reread them.

Exquisite. As someone said to me recently "Amongst all the scientist SF authors, Clarke would write" and that about sums it up.
