Bedtime at the Swamp

I love this book! A little boy is just a "sittin' by a swamp just hummin' a tune," when he hears "Splish splash rumba-rumba bim bam BOOM! Splish splash rumba-rumba bim bam BOOM!" He takes off running and is soon summoned by his sister, brother, and cousins in turn. Each arrives with the same message and receives the same response, "'Ma said to fetch you 'cause it's time for bed!' ‘QUICK! HIDE! There's a monster in the swamp!' I said."
The refrain is so catchy that children won't be able to resist chiming in! The artwork is rich with the deep blues, purples and greens of an evening in the swamp. Pamintuan's illustrations are able to convey fear with humor as the children hang upside from the willow tree where they have taken refuge from show more the swamp monster. This is MY FAVORITE book as of today! I love it as a mommy and as a teacher. It is a great class story that you can have your students use musical instruments while reading and sining. It is a great story for my two little kids and I to read also. I love the chorus that repeats - we read it loud and to a beat each times! An all time favorite!

This story is about a boy who is chased by a monster in the swamp and ends up hiding in a tree. His brother and sisters try to find him to tell him it's time for bed, but they get scared of the monster too. The monster ends up being their mother looking for them.
This book can be told in many different ways to make it more scary, or less scary and instruments can be used to heighten the scare.
