McDuff and family go on a picnic on the fourth of July. While riding in the car, McDuff always winds up getting in the front seat, whether it is because the baby was crying or other issues. When the family arrives at the picnic, the picnic basket gets invaded with ants. McDuff then sets off to find some more food and befriends a man that offers his food to them. Even though McDuff was being mischievous about finding food, the man was lonely and grateful to meet new friends and share his food. Rosemary Wells explains that bad things can turn into good things as long as you are open to them. This book is in comparison to all of her others books because the characters of the books are mostly animals. Animals display every day issues that show more children face from day to day. show less
McDuff Saves the Day is a story about McDuff who goes on a picnic with his owners. The food is stolen by ants and they have nothing to eat. McDuff spots an old man and he cooks for him and the rest of the family, thus McDuff saves the day.

The story is very easy to follow and also pretty good. I really like McDuff and he haves a greedy personality which I also like. When McDuff wants his way, he usually gets it and I am like that too. The pictures were really funny and I love watching McDuff's facial expressions. This book should be read by all kids as I think they will enjoy it and its contents.
This book would be best for second or older readers. It contains few sentences per page yet lots of dialogue. It can be used for talk of fourth of july and linked with being friendly and helpful. Mcduff saves the family's day by introducing them to a new man with food enough for everyone.
