McDuff's New Friend is a story about McDuff who is experiencing Christmas and every sound he hears, he thinks it is Santa Claus coming to deliver McDuff's presents. In the end, McDuff gets a present from Santa Claus, a new friend who is a cat.
This is another great book by Rosemary Wells. I enjoyed McDuff's curious personality in this book. I remember the time when it was Christmas and I couldn't wait to see Santa Claus. The pictures were also excellent. I really felt like I was experiencing Christmas Day with the pile of snow surrounding and all the Christmas decorations surrounding the house. When I saw the swirl of snow in the pictures, I felt cold and the nostalgia of the cold Christmas started to set in. I think lots of kids will show more enjoy this book and should give it a read when they can. show less

The only thing I really liked, was McDuff. He is so cute!!!! The story itself is good in theory, but the execution is poor. Sorry Ms. Wells, but this was another miss for me. Important lesson: Always listen to your dog...chances are, he's not just barking to bark. =|
I love the McDuff stories and actually by the time I purchased this gorgeously illustrated picture book, my boys were too old for it. But that's okay, I bought it for me. I love the vintage look of the illustrations and besides, one day I'm bound to be a grandma. Can't wait to share this little gem.
This book is good to read near Christmas time. Mcduff is so cute I could hug him.
The story, "McDuff's New Friend" is about a little dog. The dog and his owners are watching out the window for santa, when McDuff had to go to the bathroom. He went out into the snow to potty and got lost. His owners looked for him everywhere. They found him trying to help santa get his sleigh unstuck. McDuff and his owners then dug santa's sleigh out of the snow. Santa came home with them and had warm soup, he had to hurry thought because it was Christmas Eve. I would read this book to first or second graders. I think that this book was very interesting and I know children would love it. The story can really allow the children to use their imaginations.
Learning to adjust to new babies in the family. Christmas time and seeing Santa. Great for younger children.
