"Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear" is an action rhyme where the character is preparing to go to sleep, and is told what to do through imperative statements. The narrator lists actions by beginning with "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear" followed by the desired action. This type of book is very beneficial to young readers as they will want to do the same actions as the teddy bear in the story. The pictures in the story aid in allowing the reader to understand what they should be doing if they are choosing to mimic the bear's actions. The teddy bear will turn around and touch the ground, which is working on gross motor skills in young children, and then the he will practice a routine before going to bed. Children must practice and maintain a bedtime routine to prepare them for the routine of healthy habits they must maintain throughout their entire life, and this story promotes it through the ending rhymes and actions that are able to be mimicked easily as a kindergartener or first grader.
