A Mountain Alphabet is an excellent book with beautiful illustrations. The book encourages you to look closely at the illustrations, for each contains hidden within it the corresponding letter of the alphabet and different animals, plants, and natural features. Some of these are actually quite challenging to find, making the book appropriate for children of many ages. I'm sure many adults would enjoy the artwork as well (and I still haven't found all of the letters!). The text in the back provides more information about what's happening in the illustrations. Overall, A Mountain Alphabet is a beautiful introduction to western North America's mountains.
from the back cover: "A black bear browsing on berries, a moose in the morning mist, a wolf walking through a winter wonderland - welcome to a journey through the magnificent mountains of western North America. Each painting captures a special mountain mood and invites you to discover intriguing animals, plants, and even the letter of the alphabet hidden in the picture. A lyrical text and useful notes make this book as informative as it is beautiful." I agree. This is one of those alphabet books that is suited to school-age rather than preschoolers. The pictures are so detailed and very beautiful, so the book can be enjoyed over and over again.
