What if there was a purple planet with purple people on it? Sheree Fitch answers this question with a zany tongue-twister of a poem featuring Mabel Murple, a daredevil who rides a purple motorbike through purple puddles, skis on purple snow, and on her pancakes pours maple syrup. With a rich and vivid purple palette, Sydney Smith's brand-new illustrations reflect the wild joy in this classic poem. Very funny rhymes and pictures. A girl imagines a world where EVERYTHING is purple, and a similar girl named Mable Murple who lives there. "Mabel Murple's house was purple. So was Mabel's hair. Mabel Murple's dog was purple, a purple poodle named Pierre. Mabel's portico was purple. So was her bassoon. She played some purple blues, underneath a purple moon." Great for ages 2 to 6. We have enjoyed it again and again. (reviewed when our child was in grade one.)
Update - our 11 year old daughter still loves this book, and keeps it on a shelf in her all-purple bed room! She was very pleased to meet the author at a Literacy conference and hear about her other books and writing process. While this book is best for toddlers up to grade one, it might remain a family favourite for longer. ( )
