I liked this book, and I like the ending of it and the way it ends the series without ending the whole Darkyn UNIVERSE, but it didn't have quite the same power for me that the previous two did.
Perhaps this is partly because I love the Robin Hood mythology so much, and so I expected more of Robin's book? Perhaps I just didn't connect as much with Chris? I'm really not sure. I did enjoy it, however, and look forward to the universe continuing in the novels of the Kyndred.

Stay the Night is #7 in a series entitled Darkyn. What I really liked about this book is that, #7 or not, you don't have to read the prior novels to enjoy it. Admittedly, there are times something would have been a bit better with more background but this was a great book and now I'm going to have to go visit half.com to get the other 6! The characters in the book run true to historic form in many ways and it was interesting to see how they were coping with the 21st Century.
Chris is a Federal agent assigned to catch “The Magician” - an thief extraordinare. An older man with grey hair who, while robbing a bank caused her partner to kill himself with just a word. She feels the suicide is somehow her fault and she volunteers to act as show more a gallery owner to attract The Magician into attempting to steal a priceless book. A couple of issues: the priceless book is the real thing, not a forgery (“...Using an irreplaceable, priceless artifact that men have been killing one another to possess for the last seven hundred years...is insanity”) and the guy she slept with the night before is the thief. Better yet, the book is stolen from them - but not by....
...Rob Lockley (that’s right - Robin Hood!) He’s been around for centuries. He is a damn good thief and a better lover. He is also a Darkyn Lord (read: vampire). He falls for Chris before he knows her background and takes her with him to recapture the book for a woman who will kill all of his warriors and humans unless she gets it back.
The thief is Rob’s cousin who hates him for a little situation involving Marian all those years ago. They find him, the woman finds them, she takes the book along with something much more precious. The story is fast-paced, sexy and horrific in it’s battles. Something to keep you reading through the night. I did! show less

Lynn Viehl kept me entertained with this entire series and I was feeling a bit sad about reading this final book. Because while I read the books in this series pretty much back to back and it was nice knowing I another book waiting for me while it lasted. There was a little bit of everything in this last novel with pace moving at a fast clip with all the intrigue and thrills leading up to the end. For me, Stay the Night brought a somewhat feeling of closure with mixed feelings on the ending but it threads to the spin off series, the Kyndred.
I enjoyed reading every one of the books in the Darkyn series, starting with If Angels Burn. I highly recommend it to those who enjoy stories that mix science, characters with true life flaws, show more personalities from past and a whole lot of paranormal, together. show less

FBI Agent, Chris, is searching for the infamous art thief, "The Magician", and ends up finding the man of her dreams. Robin of Locksley, is a Darkyn, turned vampire by a blood pathogen, that cannot seem to get enough of Agent Chris. Robin's friends become his enemies, and his enemies become few and far in between when a sacred book is stolen right under their noses.
This was enjoyable for me since Viehl's twist on vampires is not the typical "suck your blood".

It was decent. It felt rushed, but I am sure that is because the publishers decided not to renew this series so Lynn Viehl felt she had to do as much together as she could.
I really enjoyed Robin's character throughout the series. I liked the twist at the end and how him and Chris get a HEA.
I am glad that Alex finally decided one way or the other with which way to live. She finally comes to grips with her being Kyn.
I will probably read the spin off series Kyndred.
I enjoy Lynn's writing, altho I do not enjoy so many differing story lines. It get's to be too much after a while.

Review for “Stay the Night” by Lynn Viehl
This another in the series about the “Darkyn”. For those of you not in the know, vampires. As it turns out, Robin Hood became a vampire and a really good thief. Under cover FBI agent Chris Renshaw has no idea the man she is trying to catch is the legendary outlaw. Not my favorite in the series. Still advances the world in which these books are set. Some of my favorite characters also put on appearances. Still not the most stimulating book, the two main characters were to stiff and unreal.

this series is definitely unfinished. I mean, where are the Brethern who had been so doggedly chasing the Darkyn. They were heard of, but not seen. I didn't see John Keller either. I was like "what? wait!)
I feel let down. I will continue to the kyndred series to see if there are more resolutions hiding there
