Description

Did Columbus believe that God called him west to undiscovered lands? Does American democracy owe its inception to the handful of Pilgrims that settled at Plymouth? If, indeed, there was a specific, divine call upon this nation, is it still valid today? The Light and the Glory answers these questions, and many, many more. As we look at our nation's history from God's point of view, we begin to have an idea of how much we owe a very few-and how much is still at stake.

An old book written, around the time of America's bicentennial (1976) that looked back further to America's founding. Peter Marshal and David Manual, authors of The Light and the Glory, informed a generation of Americans about their countries spiritual roots. Now in this time of darkness caused by the Covid 19 pandemic, blundering political situations on both the state and national levels, along with social and racial unrest, this book still shines forth from the shelves bringing light and historical knowledge. Wise is the person who will read it either again or for the first time. Those concerned with revisionist history must read this book. The American story is complex and compelling. All the pieces and points of view of it must be show more understood, communicated and preserved for generations to come, for fads come and go. show less
Believing the things in this book requires that one have faith in God, that his hands have been in American history from Columbus to Washington.

There is so much in the middle of that timeline that shows how the Pilgrims and Puritans followed the Cloud of God to America and relied on Him, submitting their wills and desires to Him, because God promised a holy land to His children.

Whether they felt like it or not, they leaned into His promises just as Abraham, Moses, and Jesus did.

This book shows that God has not stopped working since the Bible, and that His Power remains just as impactful as it is in the Bible.

What does any of this matter? It is the formula to turn the United States back to God in repentance.
What if Columbus's discovery of American had not been accidental at all? What if it were merely the opening curtain of an extraordinary drama? We knew that God had a plan for each individual's life, Did God have a special plan for America?
I used this as the primary text for a high school American history course years ago. It is a wonderful history book unlike so many today. You will find the straight scoop here; no revisionist history within.
Discusses early American history from God's point of view.
