This is a good biography about a very important person in the Christian history of America. She was blind from a very young age and attended one of the early institutes for the education of the blind. She was a poet and able to produce very good lines very quickly and easily. Her greatest works were obviously inspired by the Lord. My favorite hymn that she wrote is "Blessed Assurance" but there are hundreds more. She was an extraordinary Christian woman. I share her belief that the downfall show more of America began when the family unit began to fall away. show less
An uneven but informative biography about a woman who, though blind from infancy, wrote thousands of poems, many of which were put to music. She is still beloved for her tireless contributions to Christian and secular music. This work is not a bad read, but it could have used some more editing.

I think the author got in the way too much to enjoy this. He was very criticL of nearly everyone mentioned in the book including Fanny. Came away almost w the impression Fanny may not have been a solid Christian if at all, tho probably she was. Ditto DL Moody, her friend. Donated the book.
Although I had heard about St. Pio, more than a year back, I read about him just last month. He strengthened my faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and helped me to understand the true meaning of confession, consecretion of bread and wine turning into Jesus Christ's blood and body, and inspired me to attend mass more often than only on Sundays.
I cannot imagine offering myself as a victim for others sins but St. Pio offered himself as a victim for mine and others sins just like Jesus did and show more hence he received Stigmata.
He is my Patron Saint now. He has helped me in offering my sufferings to our Lord Jesus Christ.
